Peekskill, officially the City of Peekskill, is a city in the New York City metropolitan area, located in Westchester County, New York, in the United States. It was founded in 1816 and is 4.37 square miles. The population is approximately 23,583+ (according to 2010 census) and the median household income is $73,000. The home sale price as of May 2016 was $250,975 and the median resident age is 35.6 years old. Peekskill is situated on a bay along the east side of the Hudson River, across from Jones Point.
Peekskill is rich in history and played a significant role in achieving U.S. Independence. It was honored as one of fifteen sites in New York State to receive these “Path to Victory” plaques from the National Park Service. These plaques commemorate and celebrate Peekskill’s role in the historic march of the French and American Continental troops on their way to and from the successful siege of Yorktown, Virginia in 1781 and 1782. And Peekskill is not just for adults. The entire family will enjoy exploring: from downtown as well as down by the riverfront. The city offers their Summer Concert Series, Car Shows, Fourth of July fireworks, an annual Jazz Festival and their New Year’s Eve Event.
The city also offers several parks and recreation opportunities that compliment life in Peekskill, including ball fields, a community pool, a running track and hiking trails. Check out Depew Park, Tompkins Park, and the Annual Horse Show at Blue Mountain Reservation. Go down to the Riverfront Green on the Hudson and enjoy the playground, take a boat ride on the Evening Star or enjoy a picnic under the gazebo; all while enjoying the river views.
Feeling active? Take a walk past the yacht club over to Charles Point. Go a little further to “Spins” and find activities indoors too, including laser tag, bocce ball, arcades, and even a high adventure rope course.
