There is a lot of excitement surrounding the grand opening of the innovative new business called the Hudson Valley Beta Kitchen in Croton-on-Hudson! They had their opening on Saturday, July 17th, and the ribbon-cutting with Mayor Brian Pugh at their new location at 163 Grand Street in Croton-on-Hudson.
I had an opportunity to meet with one of the hometown owners, Johnathan Zamora, a culinary chef and graduate from Johnson and Wales. His partner, Suzanne Decker, brings the legal expertise while partner Adam Decker oversees the business’s daily operations.
Johnathan, born and raised in San Antonio, Texas, and married a Croton graduate, has been here for fifteen years raising his family. His exposure to different cultures and cuisine combined with what it takes to be successful is part of his and his partner’s inspiration surrounding this new business. This location allows anyone who wants to start and grow a small food business. The increase in legal requirements for food-based startups since Covid began has made it more difficult for entrepreneurs to get started. Offering availability to a commercial space that is licensed and approved with the Westchester County Department of Health and the New York State Agriculture and Markets alleviates the stress for anyone to follow their dream. Cleaning supplies are available at any given time to keep up with compliance. If necessary, the team can help with packaging and logos, providing a platform for the businessperson to get out there. This includes being publicized on the HVBK website. Add in any legal and operational advice available from this experienced team creates the perfect environment for early success.
HVBK is not just about the entrepreneur. This space is also available to chefs to have menu presentations, like what has become known as the pop-up. The Beta Kitchen has cooking utensils, mixers, pots, pans, and more items to make cooking easier while also providing seating out front. This is also a great space to rent out for cooking lessons or anniversaries to bring your own chef or have one provided. They are also available for cooking clubs. The ideas are limitless. They have Wi-Fi for live streaming videos for that online, rising star. The Beta Kitchen also gives back to the community for scouting needs and availability to the local food pantry. It is certainly a win for the community all the way around.
